Urban agriculture is far from a new idea. It has been practiced in some form or another since the beginning of written history. There is evidence that before the birth of agriculture in the Fertile Crescent, areas that had begun to urbanize were already beginning to grow small crops in and around their enclaves in order to minimize the amount of work that went into transporting food.
